Qualcomm and GlobalFoundries sign multi-billion dollar revenue agreement

GlobalFoundries (GF) and Qualcomm Technologies are expanding their long-term chip manufacturing agreement. GF’s most advanced semiconductor production plant in Malta, New York, will be able to grow its capacity and secure wafer supply for U.S. manufacturing.

GlobalFoundries and Qualcomm Multi-Billion Dollar Revenue Agreement:

Qualcomm Technologies, and GF have agreed to expand their relationship in the United States to focus on FinFET for 5G transceivers, Wi-Fi, Automotive, and IoT connectivity.

GF FinFET systems are claimed to provide an excellent balance of performance, power, and space, making them perfect for cutting-edge Mobile, Automotive, and IoT applications.

Since many years ago, GF has produced Qualcomm Technologies’ feature-rich, high-performance chips all over the world. One of GF’s first clients, QGT, secured their supply in 2021 with a long-term contract spanning several regions and technologies.

With the addition of capacity at GF’s newly announced plant in Crolles, France, this arrangement has guaranteed 22FDX capacity at GF’s Dresden facility, making QGT an anchor customer in the company’s cutting-edge patented technology in Europe.

Regarding the agreement, Dr. Roawen Chen, Senior Vice President and Chief Supply Chain and Operations Officer, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. said,

With accelerating demand for 5G, Automotive and IoT applications, a robust supply chain is critical for ensuring innovation in these areas remains uninterrupted. Our continued collaboration with GF helps us to expand the next generation of wireless innovation as we move toward a world where everyone and everything can be intelligently connected.

Dr. Thomas Caulfield, president and CEO, GF said,

GF’s global manufacturing footprint enables us to partner with our customers to meet their capacity needs, where they need it. Our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies delivers differentiation and innovation in mobile and IoT spanning three continents, and this long-term agreement extension provides Qualcomm Technologies with additional U.S. based manufacturing for a more resilient supply chain.
